Warren Dunes Campground is not particularly special. We stayed at one of the rustic sites which was basically a dirt pit right next to several other neighboring dirt pits with patches of poison ivy scattered throughout. Rowan couldn't complain. Dirt is his specialty. One of our dirt pit neighbors even gave him a dump truck they'd found on the dunes.
In his element
The dunes and Lake Michigan, of course, were another story. Every place we've been along the lake over the years has been spectacular. There is a way to drive within 100 yards of the beach which is the easy way to get there, though you have to share it with hundreds of people. If you're willing to hike a mile or so over sand dunes in the sun with a 3-year old, an infant, 3 dogs, and your gear, you can have the entire beach to yourself. Surprisingly, Rowan made it up and over all the dunes each day without complaint. Even Allie was holding up her paws in some spots because the sand was so hot.
Rewarded by Lake Michigan
I have a feeling most boys wear shorts and no shirt into the water.

Doggies - chilling out
This look sums up his general bad-ass 3-year old attitude lately.
And Iris? Mostly she seemed pretty bored with the beach. It made her sleepy.
It's quite possible she even slept through a lake dipping

The dirt pit was a bit more amusing.

Ready for home
Looks like an awesome trip!
ReplyDeleteNo beer is allowed in Minnesota state parks, period. And you can only have dogs if you bring them everywhere, but most paths aren't open to dogs.
ReplyDeleteWe still drink beer in the parks. We're just careful about it. We asked a ranger, and he said he only gets on people who are being rowdy. It's mostly in place to easily be able to kick out folks who get belligerent.
