A little something about a boy and a girl, their dogs, their adventures, a few flowers...and a wee bit of running.

Bike Camping

Brian has had a fabulous long term dream of touring the country (or world) by bike...with Rowan and me...and all three dogs. We now have a trailer for Rowan and panniers for our gear and last year he started building a trailer that could accommodate the dogs. I love the idea. But I also love dreaming about how good our dogs are (they're not) or how well behaved they are in public (they're definitely not). To be honest, one is deaf, one is a bit neurotic, one is just plain dumb (sorry Pete, but we all know it's true), and not one listens for more than 10 seconds at a time. So, the dog trailer has been put on hold for a little while until we first work the kinks out of traveling by bike with a 2-year old. We'll tackle one type of chaos at a time.

Father's Day weekend was our first bike camping trip and we joined Alex, Sus, and Abby for this inaugural journey. The trail was perfect. It was flat and through the woods, passed a few farms and lakes, and for us, ended at a great little campground the first day and close to Bell's Brewery on the second day. All in all, it was perfect. I can't wait to go again and maybe, just maybe, the dogs will make it some time soon. Perhaps then there will be fewer holes in the backyard when we get back.

No, their feet aren't actually IN the fire.
Abby, patiently and eagerly, awaits her blueberry pancakes.
A few blueberries and a whole lot of mosquito bites.

The crew!

  2. Love your photos Heather! Looks like just the right amount of chaos--probably good you left the pooches at home this round!
